Angel City Brewery’s First “What Would You Brew?” Winner Hits The Sweet Spot Tapping Mexican Cola-Inspired Beer

On Tap at the Public House for a Limited Time

Los Angeles, CA (March 31, 2014) — Los Angeles is known for many things, but for Emily Finch, LA is best represented by enjoying a late night taco or bacon-wrapped hot dog from a street vendor paired with an ice-cold authentic Mexican cola.

When Angel City Brewery’s first ‘What Would You Brew?’ contest took place last November, Emily, an avid home brewer, couldn’t think of a better brew than combining the flavors of cola –acidic, a smidge spicy, caramel-y, a tad sweet and malty – with beer, to tap into her nostalgia for late nights in LA. With her submission for Mexican cola beer Emily beat out 279 other applicants, and patrons will have a chance to taste her creative concoction at the Public House as of April 1, 2014.

“When applying for the contest, I thought to myself, ‘What reminds me of L.A.?’ and I instantly thought of hanging out with my friends and my brothers in Downtown,” said Emily. “After a late night of pub hopping, our favorite thing to do is grab food from street vendors.  And nothing tastes better with street food at 2 a.m., than a nice, cold bottle of Mexican Coca Cola.  Then it hit me… Mexican cola, plus beer, equals the best idea ever.”

As part of her prize, Emily got to spend the day with Angel City Brewery’s Head Brewer Dieter Foerstner and had the chance to brew her dream beer with him.

“I had a great time working with Emily on her recipe,” said Brewer Dieter Foerstner.  “It’s fun to get our community involved and I look forward not only to this beer, but also collaborating with future ‘What Would You Brew?’ winners.”

The first batch of the Mexican cola-inspired beer will be available at the Public House in limited quantity starting April 1st, and a second barrel-aged iteration will be released in conjunction with LA Beer Week in September.

The Public House is Angel City’s own 19-tap bar serving an ever-changing roster of classic and newly inspired beer. The bar is open 7 days a week with a full calendar of events ranging from weekly industry and trivia nights, to art shows and live music. Private event space is also available. The Public House is open Monday-Thursday, 4:00pm – 10:00pm, Friday 4:00pm – 12am, Saturday 12:00pm – 12:00am, and Sunday 12:00pm – 10:00pm.
