Los Angeles, CA (August 13, 2013) – Avocado season is upon us in Southern California and Angel City Brewery is celebrating it as it does most things – with a party! Angel City’s Avocado Festival will be held on August 24, from 1 to 7 pm. Brewer Dieter Foerstner will brew his 100th batch of beer in 2013 and guess what it will be? Yep, Avocado Ale, a guacamole inspired brew. Plus a whole roster of green goodness and messy fun.
The Avocado Ale, brewed with all the traditional guacamole ingredients, is just the latest original creation from Dieter. Since the start of 2013, he has produced a Pickle Weisse – a tart, light-bodied, straw-colored ale blended with pickles, White Nite – a nitrogenated, light-bodied golden ale with hints of chocolate and espresso, and the French Sip – playing off of the long-standing rivalry between Cole’s and Philippe’s the Original – the two Downtown institutions that both claim to have invented the French dip sandwich. With no limitations on his creativity and 19 taps at the Brewery, Dieter has plenty of room to experiment and challenge the expectations of Los Angeles beer lovers.
Avocado Ale will be the perfect thing to wash down the great food from Steel City Sandwiches, who will be on site with their food truck and Octopops, makers of the famous avocado popsicles, will be there chilling. The first 50 people to show up to Avocado Fest will receive a free Octopop. Live music will be presented by The Sunset Drifters, the Downtown Country All Stars, Root Shakur, and RT n’ the 44s, among others.
No Avocado Festival would be complete without a guacamole contest. Those bold souls in possession of awesome – or at least unique – recipes can enter by contacting Emily at Emily@angelcitybrewery.com. Brewer Dieter, whose family owns an avocado farm and passion for the green fruit goes so far that he brews with it, will be among the judges.
A proud supporter of the Downtown LA community and its causes, the Avocado Festival will be in support of Lamp Community. During the event, art from Lamp residents will be on display. Lamp works to end the homelessness of Los Angeles’ most vulnerable individuals, primarily adults with mental illness, through a continuum of services and housing.
Angel City Brewery just celebrated its official opening on May 4 and is now fully open to the public after more than a year of building and brewing. The Public House is Angel City’s own 19-tap bar serving a changing roster of classic and newly inspired brews. New hours are Monday-Thursday, 4:00pm – 10:00pm, Friday 4:00pm – 12am, Saturday 12:00pm – 12:00am, and Sunday 12:00pm – 10:00pm. The brewery will house a regular roster of events ranging from art shows and live music to game nights, and beyond.
