Downtown Brewery Providing More Than Beer This Holiday Season

Angel City Brewery Promotes Giving Back with its Three-Part “Be an Angel” Program

Los Angeles, CA (November 25, 2013) — December is nearly here and with the onset of the holiday season, Angel City Brewery thinks there is no better time to celebrate our own good fortune by doing good for others. In this spirit, Be An Angel has been launched.  In this kick off year, Angel City is hosting three programs to benefit local Downtown organizations and inviting brewery fans and friends to join.

Midnight Mission Food Drive

Throughout the month of December, Angel City is partnering with Downtown’s Midnight Mission to collect non-perishable food items in support of the Mission’s holiday meal preparation and grocery supplies for families in need. Anyone who drops off at least five non-perishable food items during the month will receive a small gift from Angel City. Donations can be dropped off during regular hours, Monday-Thursday, 4:00pm – 10:00pm, Friday 4:00pm – 12am, Saturday 12:00pm – 12:00am, and Sunday 12:00pm – 10:00pm.

Midnight Mission has been serving homeless Angelenos for nearly 100 years with critical services including transitional housing, education and professional guidance, substance abuse support and hunger relief services. Needs are particularly high during the holiday season when the Mission feeds individuals and families in need in the on-site cafeteria as well as with vital grocery bag donations.

Arts District Community Cleanup

Second on their list of giving back is an Arts District community cleanup set for December 21st. Community cleanups aren’t a new concept for the brewery, which has hosted several over the course of the year. The focus of this event will be to pick up trash and help further beautify the Arts District. Community cleanup volunteers will gather at noon at Angel City. After the cleanup the group will head over to a local bar for an after party.

Lamp Community Holiday Ornament Making

On December 22, Angel City will also host an afternoon of holiday ornament making to benefit Downtown’s Lamp Community, an organization dedicated to ending the homelessness of Los Angeles’ most vulnerable individuals, primarily adults with mental illness, through a continuum of services and housing. Angel City and friends will partake in a festive afternoon with the completed ornaments being used to decorate Lamp’s facilities during the holiday. “Gifts of handmade ornaments for Lamp residents will be a special way to spread some joy to those who may not receive any other gifts for the holidays,” said Beth Stirnaman, Lamp’s Coordinator of Volunteer Relations.

From noon to 4:00, Angel City will provide all of the art supplies for the ornament making, with Lamp volunteers running the craft tables. Art made by Lamp members will be on display at the brewery as well, and will be available for sale on Lamp’s website. In addition, Angel City will donate $1 from every beer purchased at the brewery during that time to Lamp Community.

“Be An Angel” is a program grown out of Angel City’s core beliefs of community support and participation.  It is dedicated to supporting the local Downtown community, as well as the good works of philanthropic agencies around Los Angeles. Being a good neighbor and good citizen is a central philosophy at Angel City. Be An Angel will continue to grow each holiday season with new collaborations, events and outreach.
